Frequently Asked Questions

Automobile FAQ

Q: What information will I need to bring to get an auto insurance quote?
A: You will need the driver’s license of all drivers, registration card or title, a copy of your previous auto insurance policy if you have it, and social security number. You will also be asked other questions that will affect your insurance rate

Q: How do comprehensive and collision coverage differ?
A: Collision is defined as losses you incur when your automobile collides with another car or object. For example, if you hit a car in a parking lot, the damages to your car will be paid under your collision coverage.

Comprehensive provides coverage for most other direct physical damage losses you could incur, including fire, flood, or theft. For example, damage to your car from a hailstorm will be covered under your comprehensive coverage.

Q: Who needs to be listed as a driver on my automobile policy?
A: All licensed drivers living in your household need to be listed on your policy. This includes individuals who are living with you that are not related to you. A driver who is living with you and has his/her own automobile insurance in force does not need to be listed on your policy however you should be diligent to make sure the coverage stays in force.

Homeowners FAQ

Q: What can I do to lower my homeowner rate?
A: There are a number of things you can do to lower the cost of your homeowners insurance..
You can lower the cost of your homeowners insurance by looking for any discounts that you may qualify for. For example, many insurers will offer a discount when you place both your automobile and homeowners insurance with them. Other times, insurers offer discounts if there are deadbolt exterior locks on all your doors, or if your home has a security system. Be sure to ask us about any discounts for which you may qualify
Another easy way to lower the cost of your homeowners insurance is to raise your deductible. Increasing your deductible from $250 to $500 will lower your premium, sometimes by as much as five or ten percent

Q; Does my homeowners policy cover flood and earthquake?
A: Homeowners policies do not cover flood insurance and flood coverage can not be added. A separate flood policy must be purchased to specifically cover this peril
The standard insurance policy does not pay for direct damages caused by "earth movement." "Earth movement" includes earthquake, volcanic activity and other earth movement. This coverage may be available by endorsement for an additional charge. The price will be determined by the area you live in and how likely there is to be earth movement.

Q: Where and when is my personal property covered?
A: Personal property (except property that is specifically excluded) is covered anywhere in the world. It does not have to be inside your home to be covered.

Umbrella FAQ

Q: What is a personal umbrella policy?
A: A personal umbrella liability policy is used to increase your liability protection by giving you an extra layer (umbrella) over all of your other personal liability policies – home, auto, watercraft, recreational, etc.

Q: Do I need a personal umbrella policy?
A: Before our society became so litigious, the only people who really needed umbrella policies were wealthy individuals with large personal assets that could be at risk in the event of a lawsuit. Now, however, even those with middle and modest incomes and assets are subject to large lawsuits and less able to pay large damage awards. A personal umbrella would provide the added limit of liability to cover them in the event they became legally liable.

Life FAQ

Q: How much life insurance should I buy?
A: There are many factors that should be considered when determining the right amount of life insurance to buy, such as:

  • Income sources/amounts other than salary and earnings.
  • Marital status, spouse’s earning capacity
  • Who is financially dependent on you?
  • What special finance needs exist (mortgage payment, education, debts, etc)

It is not as simple as it seems so when planning to buy life insurance, be sure to discuss all possible options with your agent at Ramsey Insurance.
